About Live Edge Wood
Live edge wood refers to timber that has been cut from a tree in such a way that the natural edge of the wood, including the bark, is preserved on one or both sides of the board. Live edge wood retains the unique and irregular shapes of the tree's outer growth rings, knots, and other natural features. Each piece of live edge wood is unique due to the natural variations in grain patterns, knots, and imperfections. This makes every piece of furniture a work of art with its own individual character. This is in contrast to the clean lines, knot free wood of much manufactured furniture.
Live edge wood showcases the inherent beauty and characteristics of the tree it came from. The grains, textures, and colours of the wood are on full display, creating a visually striking and organic appearance.
At Riviere Woodworks, live edge wood is my preferred choice of wood due to its rustic quality that can add warmth and charm to a space. Live edge wood furniture brings a piece of nature indoors, creating a sense of connection to the outdoors and the natural world.
